About The Paoli Mural Project

The vision

How does a mural help the community?

Why is Safe Haven involved?

Adam Long, a well known muralist and skilled painter has been creating murals across Indiana for years. While working on the Orleans Silo project, he envisioned bringing that vision through the Orange County towns. The mural in Paoli would tie into the Orleans mural featuring a Monon Train and some of the history of our town. Adam is ready to jump into the project, but we need funding!

Safe Haven REC focuses on helping people with substance use and mental health disorders and while at first glance it seems we don't fit the mold of supporting a mural, when you look at what encourages recovery (home, community, health, and purpose) a mural makes perfect sense! A mural will help improve the sense of community and purpose in the town and we hope to add a memorial component to this mural by adding names of those we want to remember .

Beautification of a town and creating a mural project helps move a town forward. Often when one area starts revitalizing, other areas in town will follow suite and also want to improve, beautify, or revitalize as well! A Mural project, especially tied into other murals locally, can create a tourism opportunity for small rural towns, giving people a reason to drive into town and snap a picture at the mural. Helping improve our town with artwork can be one more step in the right direction to improving the community, through art!
